Zachary grew up at the western edge of Chicagoland and graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Art History from Columbia College Chicago in 2010. During that time he also completed a four-year period of Japanese study at North Central College. Since graduating he has worked for a variety of art-related non-profits and from 2012-2014, spent two years in Amakusa, Japan as an Assistant Language Teacher through the JET Program. While there he tackled various projects to bring more art into the rural community in which he lived. He currently resides in in Grand Rapids, working to strengthen the art community and continuing to work on his own artwork.

In art history he's fascinated by art which focuses on appealing to the common person and their lived experience. In his artistic practice, he strives to always put his audience first and make work that is conceptually and physically based in their lives.
